This Week's Musing
a paper with smiles for people to take with them when they go

This week has been a doozy.

I came down with the flu. My husband’s traveling for work. We lost power during an extreme cold warning. And then tonight my oldest son spiked a fever. All I could do was pick up the phone and call my mom and cry, because at 35 years old you still need your mom.

In the middle of all this chaos, one of my neighbors dropped some soup off on my front porch, another brought some packages she had picked up for us while we were away, and multiple friends texted daily to check on me. All of these small acts of kindness reminded me that I wasn’t alone, and went a long way in getting me through the week.

I’m sharing this because I think we all need the reminder: you never really know what people are going through despite the perfect Instagram posts and polite smiles. Life is hard. Everyone is facing their own challenges. We’re all just trying to make it through the day.

Last week when I was checking out at the grocery store, a man using the check out next to me wasn’t able to pay for his bag of limes. I was too rushed and distracted to realize what was happening, and before I could offer to pay he was gone. The thought of how little it would have cost me, but how much it might have meant to him has stuck with. me all week.

I think what the world needs right now is more small acts of kindness. Nothing big or expensive or elaborate, but small gestures that lets someone know they’re seen.

So here’s my challenge for you (and me) this week: do one small thing for someone else. You don’t have to spend any money, you could leave a note for your postal worker, ask the person at the checkout counter how their day is going, or send a text to that person you’ve been meaning to reach out to for a while to let them know you’re thinking about them.

Imagine the kind of world we’d build for our children if everyone walked around spreading just a little more kindness throughout their day?

P.S. Please reply and let me know what you did, I’d love to hear from you!

Friday Favorite's

🛏️ We have these travel beds for our kids and they’ve come in handy so many times, we love them! We even traveled with them to Disney World and they worked perfectly.

💄 I wore this powder with SPF every day last week and love how easy it was to apply. It kept my skin protected all day in the sun!

🥗 We’ve been trying to cook healthier and I’ve found myself using this cookbook a lot. She uses a lot of simple ingredients, but creates really flavorful and healthy meals.

Happy Friday, Friends! I hope you all have a great weekend. Our family will be resting and recovering!
